FAQS

What are waistbeads?
Waistbeads are a traditional African accessory that consist of small glass beads on a string or wire worn around the waist or hips. They come in different colors and shapes and may also include decorative stones, crystals, or charms.
Waistbeads have been worn for centuries by women in the West African culture. In more recent years they have gained popularity among women in the West. They are also referred to as belly beads, waistline beads, or beaded waist chain.
Why do people where them?
People where waistbeads for various reasons. Waistbeads are commonly used to monitor weight loss or weight gain. Rather than stepping on a scale, people can use waist beads to stay aware of any weight gain or loss in the abdomen.
In parts of the world where waist beads are a cultural tradition, the waistbeads are often associated with womanhood, maturity, and growth.
Waistbeads can help us become more aware of their stomach and posture. The waistbeads fit quite differently depending on how one is sitting and breathing. They can serve as a reminder to sit up straight, engage your stomach muscles, relax your back, and breathe properly.

Can I shower with them on?

Bodybeadsbyk do encourage you to wear your waistbeads all the time,  but bathing, activists that includes water, and some bath products may cause some beads used to make the waistbeads to change or fade the color. This is due to the different quality of the soaps or body washes some you might be using, as they may contain harsh ingredients that can lead to the beads colors fading away. We want your waistbeads beautiful colors to last longer. I would advise removing them before showering, or just any water activities. You will allow your waisbeads color to last longer.

    Tie on strands
Tie on strands are made to be worn all day everyday. Meaning it will be worn through showering or any water activities. Since the strands are tie-on they cannot be removed until you cut them off or it breaks off. The color may wear off while doing anything the required it to get wet.
I advise that you be careful if you do not want to remove them by minimizing what rubs off against your waistbeads.
